          David Henry, a grandson of the late Louise Underwood, said he finds comfort in knowing nobody is truly gone if the influence and the tales of a person continue.

          This is why Underwood, who died March 7 at her Lubbock home at the age of 97, will have a presence in the Lubbock community for years to come.

          Henry was one of many Underwood family members who gathered Saturday afternoon for a service and celebration of Louise Underwood.

          They were accompanied by more than 500 friends and members of the community to celebrate the life of a longtime supporter and champion of the arts in Lubbock. The afternoon started with a funeral service at the Louise Hopkins Underwood Center for the Arts Warehouse led by Pastor Davis Price of Covenant Presbyterian Church.

          Several of Underwood’s grandchildren gave testimonies on behalf of the family at the service, and the Lubbock Symphony Brass Quintet led in song.
