                          I had a rare privilege of working with Professor Rajni Kothari in the Department of Political Science in the University of Delhi for about half a decade in the late 1970s and early 1980s.

          As a new Reader in the Department, I was overawed by his towering intellectual presence. Yet he had a way of putting anyone in his contact at ease by his unassuming but somewhat serious demeanour partly lightened by a wry smile.
